In the jukebox: Àsà “Fire On The Mountain”

A young Nigerian singer by the name of Àsà (pronounced Asha) is currently causing a stir with a debut eponymous album released on the French label Naïve. Àsà’s subtle mix of soul, folk and pop, cleverly interwoven with her African roots, has already evoked comparisons with Tracy Chapman and Ayo. After releasing “Yesterday’s Universe” under his Yesterday’s Quintet alias (featuring another 10 new groups that will release their own albums next year), Madlib has dropped parts 3 & 4 of his Beat Konducta series as one CD.
